Fisher: Senior Portraits

The Classic: 30 Minute Power Session

If your child does not like his photo taken or you really only need a few shots, our classic sessions are the way to go. This family picked a 30 minute session and I was still able to get a lot of images to pick from. They arrived with just his formal wear and they were only planning on studio portraits. We had a little time left over so I asked "are you sure you don't want any outside photos? There's a brick wall we can use" They agreed and thought it was a good idea. I had him take his jacket off and we went outside.
They ended up choosing two of the outside photos!
3o minutes, 1 hour, two hour, we will get enough photos to choose from!

EASTER: ARTHURS

ARTHURS EASTER

The other day I had the opportunity to photograph two beautiful siblings. The family wanted updated photos and they took advantage of the Easter promotion I had going on. They came into the studio on a Friday night to get some photos with our Easter Set. The little boy was super calm, easy to photograph, and super cute! He smiled good and even helped get his sister to sit for some photos. He showed how great he is as a helper and big brother. The little girl was not so easy. She just wanted to play and run around. She did not want to smile or participate in the session. We were able to get some great photos of her by the end of the session. She just needed a little chocolate to get energized, happy, and excited! Sometimes patience works out for the best photographic outcomes. Many clients have said that I'm super laid back and patient with their children. Here are some photos from this great shoot!!

Sophia: A CF Story

Sophia, The Warrior

On November 15, 2016 the world welcomed this little warrior to the world. Sophia Claire Taylor was Born at 7 lbs 1 oz at 40 weeks. What should have been a perfectly "normal" birthing experience was anything but. After getting stuck in the birth canal, and an emergency C section, Sophia spent a few weeks in the NICU at Buffalos Childrens Hospital. Sophia proved herself to be quite a fighter, & that fight continues every day! Sophia has cystic fibrosis, a lifelong disease effecting the lungs, pancreas, digestive system and more.

There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who struggle every day just to breathe.

Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. Years ago the average life expectancy was at best, 12 years old. Today it is not unusual for a CFer to live into their 30s or more. Progress is being made daily, but CF is still taking young lives far too often.

To maintain as healthy & "normal" life as possible, Sophia has to take special enzymes with any food or drink, to help her pancreas function properly. She also has a machine, a vibrating vest, to help clear her lungs. She wears the vest daily for 30 minutes, mornings & evenings. She also has a nebulizer which forces a medicine directly into her lungs, to help keep her breathing easy for her. That is 10 minutes for each treatment.

Additionally, Sophia is in a gymnastics class for 2 year olds...the activity is especially important for anyone with CF, and vital to keeping the lungs clear & functioning properly. Sophia is fighting every day to beat this hideous disease, and she is the true definition of warrior! At 2 years old, Sophia is a very happy & energetic , beautiful little girl~ waiting to teach world a thing or two.

***You can donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by booking a Mommy & Me mini session with me! 50% of your session fee will be donated to the CF Foundation to help those who are fighting just like Sophia.***

Easter: Battista

Battista Easter

I met these wonderful kids last week for Easter photos. They were loud, energetic, and silly, but who isn't at that age? I knew ahead of time that the little boy was autistic. I had an idea it was going to be difficult to get participation out of him. He came in, took a bite of my fake carrot, took a couple laps around the studio, climbed on the couch and found a lot of distractions. I took photos of the little girl first, who was definitely not camera shy. She did a fabulous job and the photos came out great! The little boy was calm, watching a video on his mom's phone. We tried getting him to sit for some photos, he was not having it. I thought, well maybe if we turned what he was watching on his moms phone on the screen he would sit still. It worked for the most part. The only problem was that he was not looking at the camera, he was tuned in on the screen watching Paw Patrol. It was okay though... He was still, he was calm, and I was still able to grab a couple shots of him smiling. Check them out...

Mother's Day Botanical Mini Session

Nicole & Adequin: Mother's Day

Location: Buffalo Botanical Gardens

”My mother is my root, my foundation. She planted the seed that I base my life on, and that is the belief that the ability to achieve starts in your mind.” – Michael Jordan

Nicole and her son, Adequin have a very special bond. I am so happy they came out to Botanical Gardens to model for me. I had  photographed Adequin in the fall and realized then, that their bond is beautiful. I asked them to model for my Botanical Gardens Mother's Day Sessions because I knew I could capture images that would illustrate how incredible their bond is, promoting this special event.

Taking an Image from Good to Extraordinary

Or, why you book your session with me...

Abby is graduating this June, 2017.  She came to Wilmack Photo through a referral not really knowing what to expect.  The only instructions she really received before the shoot were don't overdo your make up and pack a suitcase (remember it was a referral right?)

Anyway, we were able to find looks that totally match her personal style and body type, and I think the results speak for themselves, you can see in the selection of photos below  However, first I want to point out a shot that perfectly shows the transition from "senior picture" to "Amazing Portraiture" Or, why you hire me...

Here is an abridged contact sheet for this one look:

contact

From here I selected 3 shoots that "worked" for the client to see.  In the interest of space I'm only going to show the clients pick:

Developed

And this is the original, straight out of the camera shot.  At this stage it is obvious the look works for Abbey.  The lighting is right for her skin tone, the hands are elegant, the little kiss of edge light shows of her hair style.  But, the shot obviously lacks the punch to which makes my style of photography special:OutofCamera

So from 26 Images, I mix down to three and start styling the look.  After the client picks their favorite is when the real magic happens.  So, this image is totally retouched, color corrected and ready for print.  Notice the skin looks healthy and not plastic.  All the blemishes are gone, but the skin still has a natural texture. A few distracting hairs get cleaned up, but there are no hard lines or tells of retouch work.  So, that's the big secret to portrait finishing, retouched images that don't look retouched:

Finished

Quick answers to the questions I know are coming.

  • Only pictures that are ordered by the client receive this level of processing
  • Retouching, toning and editing is included at no extra cost
  • I agree, this "look" is not a style that fits everyone's taste.
  • From a 200-300 image shoot clients might only see 30-40 excellent images.  From here we may only pick a handful of favorites to go to print..  It's just part of the process.

Thank you so much Abbey for coming into my studio.  Your session was a ton of fun and I am so greatful you allowed me to share some of your images.
